Quang Ngai Province and HDF Energy forge strategic partnership to jointly develop green hydrogen projects
Bordeaux (France), September 17, 2024 - HDF Energy, leading developer of large-scale hydrogen infrastructure and manufacturer of high-power fuel cells, and the Quang Ngai Department of Industry and Trade of Vietnam have formalized their collaboration through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This agreement, executed on September 16, 2024, at HDF's headquarters in Bordeaux (France), signals a bold commitment to advancing green hydrogen and renewable energy projects in the Vietnamese Quang Ngai Province.
Over the past decade, Vietnam has experienced significant economic growth, resulting in a sharp rise in energy demand. Currently, most of the country's energy is derived from fossil fuels, such as coal and gas. With its abundant wind and solar resources thanks to its geographic advantages, Vietnam is taking substantial steps to expand renewable energy production contributing to its goal of net zero emissions by 2050.
The Quang Ngai province emerges as a crucial player in this transition. Through their partnership, HDF Energy and the Quang Ngai Department of Industry and Trade of Vietnam aim to facilitate the development of renewable energy and green hydrogen projects.
The focus will be on integrating HDF Energy's pioneering technologies, including HyPower (Gas-to-Power) and Renewstable® (Power-to-Power) multi-megawatt hydrogen power plants, which provide reliable, non-intermittent, and clean energy to the grid around the clock. HDF Energy's expertise in hydrogen power generation is set to redefine energy production in the region. The strategic integration of HyPower technology, in particular, presents an exciting opportunity. Quang Ngai's proximity to Petro Vietnam's Binh Son refinery, makes it an ideal location to produce electricity from refinery by-product hydrogen through HDF's cutting-edge multi-MW fuel cells, enhancing local energy systems' efficiency and sustainability.
The MoU was officially signed by Mr. Vo Van Ran, Director of Department of Industry and Trade of Quang Ngai Province, and Mr. Mathieu Geze, Director for Asia at HDF Energy, in the presence of Mr. Tran Phuoc Hien, Vice Chairman of Quang Ngai provincial People's Committee, Mr. Jean-Noël de Charentenay, Deputy CEO HDF Energy, and Mr. Damien Havard, CEO HDF Energy.
Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony, Mr. Vo Van Ran, Director of Department of Industry and Trade of Quang Ngai Province, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “ Quang Ngai Province has great potential for renewable energy and industrial infrastructure. Green hydrogen is one of the top priorities for Quang Ngai Province's development in the near future, especially in remote areas and islands. We hope to establish an effective collaboration with investors and developers who possess technologies like those of HDF Energy for hydrogen sector projects in Quang Ngai Province ”.
Mathieu Geze, HDF Energy's Director for Asia, emphasized “We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Quang Ngai Province, Vietnam. This collaboration represents a significant step towards sustainable energy solutions, leveraging Quang Ngai's strategic advantages to drive innovation and environmental stewardship in the hydrogen sector.”
