Paris (France), January 17, 2024 - Hydrogène de France (HDF Energy), a leading developer of large-scale green hydrogen infrastructure and high-power fuel cell manufacturer, has joined forces with the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) of the Kingdom of Cambodia to optimize Cambodia's energy landscape. The collaboration was solidified through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the official delegation trip of Cambodia Prime Minister HUN Manet, responding to an invitation from French President Emmanuel Macron. This bilateral cooperation aims to pave the way for conducting feasibility studies, focusing on the establishment of green hydrogen facilities as a sustainable energy source for Cambodia's national power sector.
Cambodia has made considerable progress in the development of its energy sector. The nation has witnessed rapid growth in electricity demand, an expansion of power generation capacity, and improvements in the transmission and distribution network. Despite nationwide electrification progress, Cambodia faces challenges in transitioning to a carbon-neutral society. Notably, heavy reliance on coal and hydro capacities, as well as on imported fossil fuels, pose significant complexities for the country's energy landscape. In response to these challenges, HDF Energy, through the MoU, commits to supporting Cambodia's ambitious Power Development Plan (PDP), a comprehensive long-term strategy for the country's power sector spanning from 2022 to 2040.
Mathieu Geze, HDF Energy's Director for Asia, emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating, "Our partnership with the Ministry of Mines and Energy of Cambodia marks an important step towards a sustainable and green energy future for the country. By leveraging HDF Energy's expertise in hydrogen infrastructure and fuel cells, we aim to accelerate the deployment of our Renewstable® facilities, providing green, stable, and baseload power 24/7 to Cambodia's national power sector."
The Renewstable® facilities, multi-megawatt hydrogen power plants developed by HDF Energy, are designed to seamlessly integrate intermittent renewable sources, such as solar and surplus hydro energy, with substantial on-site energy storage in the form of green hydrogen. These plants serve as a sustainable alternative to traditional fossil-fuel power plants, eliminating greenhouse emissions and noise.
By supporting Cambodia in achieving its renewable energy deployment goals, HDF Energy is aligned with the government's commitment to providing clean and stable energy to its citizens. The collaboration between HDF Energy and MME exemplifies a shared vision for a greener and more sustainable future for Cambodia's power sector.
The MoU was signed by H.E Keo Rottanak, Minister of Mines and Energy of Cambodia, and Damien Havard, Chairman and CEO of Hydrogène de France. The event, which took place at the InterContinental - Le Grand Hotel in Paris, was witnessed by H.E Dr. Ty Norin, Permanent Secretary of State, Ministry of Mines and Energy of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and Mathieu Geze, HDF Energy's Director for Asia.
